Born and raised in Long Beach, Roger
Sprague earned his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration
at Long Beach State in 1969. His favorite phrase from those days
is: “If you remember the sixties, you weren’t really
there.” Following a brief career with Xerox Corporation (where
his greatest achievement by far was meeting his wife Bette), Roger
entered the world of commercial finance during the early days of
the leveraged leasing industry. His favorite phrase from those days
is: “Always try to own assets that appreciate in value, and
lease the ones that don’t.”
In
1992, he turned his attention from equipment leasing and commercial
finance to the small business lending arena. He was introduced to
the specialized asset-based loans issued under the 504 Development
Company loan program of the U.S. Small Business Administration at
just the right time. Since joining Advantage CDC in 1996, he has
guided hundreds of southern California business owners and their
commercial bankers through the SBA 504 loan process. As Vice President
of Business Loan Development, his favorite phrase remains the same:
“Always try to own assets that appreciate in value, and lease
the ones that don’t.” In other words - lease your cars
and computers and office furniture if you want to, but don’t
be a tenant in your business location any longer than you have to.
Roger
is finally old enough to enjoy watching golf tournaments on television,
but he is still young enough to enjoy playing in golf tournaments
for fun. His favorite phrase from the world of golf is: “Being
lucky is better than being good – but it’s funny how
the more you practice, the luckier you get.” |
